I just moved into a college hostel. It felt more like a hotel to me. Queen-sized bed, ensuited, beautiful lake view, about 20 storeys high, flat-screened TV with nice blue lightings, a full body mirror, and air conditioned..those were the pro's. the only con's: no locked doors, just a double slider (a mosquito net and an opaque folding door). I did what people usually do when they enter a hotel room..tested the bed..so soft and comfy, with a nice huge comforter.
It was time to reunite with some friends for dinner. I went down with my floormate. Downstairs, a shopping mall we had to pass to exit the building. We were welcomed by many sales people who tried to persuade us to dine in the restaurants...they were all above our budget and we had our friends to meet.
About 10 of us gathered. We tried to fit into a car with 3 in front, and 7 at the back seat. 3 of us at the back had to sit on the other 4's lap. We manage to fit but when another bunch of our friends came..nope. definitely not in one car. So we all got out to decide where to eat. Half wanted to eat fast food while the other half wanted to discover what our new environment had to offer. So from there we split, and did not use the car. I did not want fast food.
A bunch of us headed down the street to one of the locally recommended restaurants. We entered and all the tables were occupied. Without wanting to queue, as that would take an hour, we went upstairs. The stairs were narrow with inconsistent steepness. I was second in line after one of our friends. After about one floor up, the stairs became strings. So we were holding and climbing strings and wires right above the middle of ground floor where everyone ate happily. Some strings snapped, and it was not easy to just walk normally on strings..we were pretty much crawling up as the bunch of strings were kinda swinging back and forth. Took us a while to reach the second floor, but that was not where customers eat..it was pretty much a rest point before we proceed higher.
We were all hungry, so without hesitating, we continued to climb. It was a little confusing as which direction to climb..there were a few more narrow staircases leading to different directions. My friend chose the steepest one as it had some lights to lead us, while others were pretty dark. The steps were small, could only rest the ball of my feet on it..as well as steep and a little slippery, so there was a chance of slipping. We climbed and climbed, all along in a single file. When we finally reached, there were like 20 other people seated on the floor watching a show from a boxed television. So we joined and sat in front of the tv and occupied 2 rows...
Sadly, we never got our meals :(
